Olivia Farwell (L) and head coach Jody Fetterhoff at the NCAA Bowling Awards Dinner in St. Louis, Mo.

PITTSBURGH – Freshman bowler Olivia Farwell (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) was named Honorable Mention All-American by the National Tenpin Coaches Association at the NCAA Bowling Awards Dinner in St. Louis, Mo. Wednesday night. The annual dinner is held prior to the start of the NCAA Women’s Bowling Championship.
The Elizabethown, Pa. native is just the second freshman in school history to earn All-American honors in any sport, joining women’s basketball player Korie Hlede (1995-98) who was a Kodak honorable mention All-American in 1995.
Farwell, the 2017-18 Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year, was one of just three freshman among the 25 bowlers honored (first, second and third teams comprised of five bowlers each, as well as 10 named honorable mention).
“Being named to an All-American team is a huge honor, but I think it’s ever more special because Olivia is only a freshman,” said Duquesne head coach Jody Fetterhoff. “Coming into this season, she embraced the challenge of anchoring this young program, so it’s great to see her get the recognition she deserves for all the hard work that she puts into her game. Olivia has set the bar pretty high and that’s what we need to elevate our program to the next level.”
Farwell, the lone freshman named First Team NEC All-Conference, earned NEC Rookie of the Week honors seven times on the way to helping the second-year Duquesne program to a No. 18 ranking in the current NTCA Top 25.
Farwell, who posted a pair of Top 5 individual finishes and four Top 10 finishes, averaged a team-high 201.88 in 34 traditional games, highlighted by a 300 in a match vs. Medaille at the Kutztown Invitational. She ranks 14th nationally in individual strike percentage at 50 percent.
