Our server was most pleasant with good menu knowledge and an engaging manner (Pat Brooks photo)

Hyannis’ “boutique” bowling alley seems to have it all. Dinning, live entertainment, drink and bowling.

You might have a hard time thinking bowling alley food could be good, but the food at the Ten Pin Eatery which just opened is all made from scratch, in-house, fresh daily.

The Ten Pin Eatery is a joint venture between Cape Cod-based Chapin’s Restaurant Group and Ryan’s Amusements. It’s located in the Macy’s Men’s Wing of Cape Cod Mall.  It features a massive bowling complex with a 300-seat restaurant and bar area, 26 TVs and several large projection screens, 8 lanes of ‘Ten Pin’ bowling, 3 additional private bowling lanes, a Cape Cod-themed laser tag arena, an arcade area and a VIP lounge with it’s own bowling lanes for special events.

On arrival we were greeted by the friendly manager, Kathy Merrill, who gave us a tour.

She pointed out how many local artisans were commissioned to design the classy interior.

The bowling lanes have two huge photo murals of the Sagamore bridge at night and the Sandwich boardwalk plus a hand blown glass showpiece of six pins and a bowling ball as well as several signature steel fish on the walls.

The menu, created by Chapin’s executive chef Kevin Violet, features upscale entrees like lobster pot pie, charbroiled steak tips, grilled Atlantic salmon, fish and chips, burgers, pizza, gluten free options and a kids menu.

The 42-seat bar features a large selection of local beers and wines, as well as creative cocktails like the Ten Pin Mojito and Pin Deck Passion. There are dozens of TVs on the walls for easy viewing of sports events.

As we were sipping cocktails, a large basket of house made BBQ potato chips arrived. Our server, Megan, told us they have different flavored chips daily.  A nice touch.

For starters I had Chapin’s famous wings ($7.99)6 wings (bone-in or boneless) I chose the boneless buffalo wings, served with celery, carrot sticks and blue cheese for dipping.

Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to eating hot wings, so even if you can’t handle the hot stuff try the “The Sampler” ($19.99). It’s served with18 wings with four different varieties to please everyone’s taste. Buffalo, spicy BBQ, Parmesan garlic and teriyaki ginger.  The meat, even on smaller pieces, remained moist and crisp making this a good choice.

My  husband’s appetizer was the Shaved Steak & Cheese Spring Rolls ($10.99)  These 6 light and wonderfully flaky pastry-wrapped spring rolls with the most delightful cheese steak filling served on greens with spicy sriracha ketchup was a delicious and memorable treat.

For an entree my husband chose the Cod Fish Taco’s ($15.99) one of his favorite meals.

Made with crispy fresh local cod tucked into three flour tortillas along with salsa, jack cheese, spicy chipotle sauce, over tangy cabbage slaw. Served with a side of tortilla chips. He said they were mighty tasty and the best yet on the Cape.

I had the Lobster Pot Pie ($24.99) There were lots of  tender chunks of sweet tasting lobster meat with a rich creamy lobster sauce all baked in a flaky crust, with a ritz cracker topping was served with mashed Yukon gold potatoes and fresh crisp-tender asparagus. Intensely rich and unforgettably delicious.

We thought about The Ten Pin Split ($14.99) for dessert with fried dough dusted with cinnamon and sugar, with three scoops of vanilla ice cream, topped with hot fudge, salted caramel sauce, and oreos with whipped cream and cherries – but after a large meal decided on the Warm Chocolate Lava Cake ($6.99) This moist chocolate cake was oozing with chocolate ganache. and  was 100% gluten free. We also shared Chapin’s Mud Pie ($6.99) with cream, cookies, ice cream with an oreo crust topped with hot fudge and whipped cream. Both were equally delicious.

Service was excellent and friendly.  The Ten Pin Eatery more than exceeded our expectations.  It’s easy to see why the bar and tables were filling up even on a Thursday night before the season.
